And that’s a wrap on the second annual Tennis and Leadership Camp!
Saint Paul Urban Tennis, The Fort, InnerCity Tennis, USTA Northern and Her Next Play partnered again to host a week-long Tennis and Leadership Camp for middle school girls. The camp included a mix of on-court tennis instruction and games, as well as off-court leadership workshops and speakers.
"I learned that I can do anything as long as I set my mind to it."
Play Bold Workshops
Between tennis drills, games, and instruction, the camp incorporated Her Next Play
Play Bold workshops to help the girls grow as tennis players and as leaders in an inspiring, brave, and supportive environment. Workshops focused on leadership, identity, communication skills, recovering from mistakes, self-talk, and how girls and women are represented in sports.
Leadership Speakers
Every day during lunch, an inspiring woman coach spoke about their experiences with tennis and leadership, and shared their own Play Bold pitch. The speakers opened up discussion for the girls to ask questions and gain insight about the tennis community.
"My favorite part was being able to share my feelings about the things we talked about."
Play Bold Pitches
At the end of camp, girls gave their Play Bold pitches. The pitches brought everything that was learned at the camp together. The girls stated why tennis is fun, how they play bold, how they lead, and their future aspirations.
100% of girls felt the coaches and leaders created a brave space at camp.
100% of the girls had fun at camp!
Following the camp, 89% of girls felt like they belonged in the tennis community, up from 63% at the start of camp.
“Women are powerful!"
